There is more in us than we know. If we can be made to see it perhaps for the rest of our lives we will be unwilling to settle for less.

The Moment
By Melanie T. Lim

It's when you realize another year has gone by and you have enjoyed every moment of the year gone past. Hardship and heartbreak. Romance and adventure. Crisis, catastrophe and all.

It's when you know you have to make a choice between what you want and what is best and you choose what is right. When you make a choice and never look back. When you close a chapter in your life with neither remorse nor regret.

It's when you know you have fallen and failed, loved and lost yet recognize the day isn't spent and the rest of life is yet to follow. When you know that no matter what the odds, you can wake up with purpose and sleep in peace. When you know that no matter what the risks, you can live with passion and die with courage.

It's when you know no one can take away what in your heart you hold dear. And that whatever the world thinks, you can stand up for what you believe in, hope for and dream about. It's when you know no one can take away from you, who you are and what you have become.

It's when you know that to live means to live now, not some other time in the future or the past. It's when you realize you can't have eternity but that now is enough.

It's when you know it's time to grow up not grow old. When you know you are only as young as you feel and as old as you think. It's when you know that moment has come for you to do today, all that you had planned to do tomorrow. Because now isn't soon enough.

It's when you know you have a priceless cache of moments and memories you should never trade for any sum. Because memories are precious and moments are priceless.

It's when you know you hold your heart forever, the moment when you couldn't be happier. When you couldn't love more. When nothing could be less perfect. When walking across the city with the wind on your cheeks. Strolling by the shore, your heart pounding louder than the tide. Dancing magically under a moonlit night, the hand that held yours was yours for that brief but eternal moment.

It's when you can walk away when it's over without anger and bitterness. When you can smile a brave smile when you say goodbye. And when you can move on, better and braver, because you have learned that love isn't love till you let it go.

You spend an entire life searching for that one, defining moment that will trigger an avalanche of enlightening and empowering moments. But you search in vain because there is no one, defining moment only a series of unforgettable moments that define you.

The moment you know with certainty you are loved. The moment you know with finality it is over. The moment you realize that eternity can never be yours. But that the moment is there for you, to seize and savor.

Everyday. For the rest of your life.

The moment is always yours if you can find it.

Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived; Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and all the others, including Love.

One day it was announced to the feelings that the island would sink, so all repaired their boats and left.

Love wanted to persevere until the last possible moment. When the island was almost sinking, Love decided to ask for help. Richness was passing by Love in a grand boat. Love said "Richness, can you take me with you?"
Richness answered, "No, I can't. There is a lot of silver in my boat. There is no place here for you."

Love decided to ask Vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel. "Vanity, please help me!"
"I can't help you Love. You are all wet and might damage my boat," Vanity answered.

Sadness was close by so Love asked for help, "Sadness, let me go with you."
"Oh....Love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself."

Happiness passed by Love too, but she was so happy that she did not even hear when Love called her!

Suddenly there was a voice, "Come Love, I will take you." It was an elder. Love felt so blessed and overjoyed that he even forgot to ask the elder his name. When they arrived at dry land, the elder went his own way.

Love realizing how much he owed the elder, asked Knowledge, another elder. "Who helped me?"
"It was Time," Knowledge answered.
"Time?" asked Love. "But why did Time help me?"
Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and answered, "Because, only Time is capable of understanding how great Love is."

"You never know until you're tested." -- Doyle, "Hero"

Since he arrived in Los Angeles, Angel's mission has been to help the helpless. He has saved countless innocents in his city. However, one escaped his grasp: Doyle, the hard-drinking, easy-living half-demon who came to Angel on a vision quest. Doyle sacrificed himself and in turn reconciled his internal conflict toward his own demonic heritage, leaving Angel (with Cordelia and, ultimately, a new cadre) to carry on with the good fight. And fight they do.

But as the group squares off against evil in the City of Angels, little do they know that back in Sunnydale trouble is brewing as usual. A shakedown of snitches yields info: Someone other than Buffy has been slaying -- and whoever it is, he or she is strictly after half-breeds, going so far as to lie in wait to attack. It doesn't add up, and the Scoobies are stumped.

Back in L.A. the picture becomes clearer when Angel Investigations is visited by an unexpected guest. It's Doyle's father, a Brachen demon named Axtius. He's come to give Doyle a gift: Daddy's going to rid Doyle of his pesky human side. In fact he's looking to rid the world of half-breeds. He's not happy to learn that Doyle's gone, and if someone is to be blamed, it's Angel. But Axtius doesn't have time to point fingers -- he knows where the mixed-blood demons have set up camp. Before long Buffy and her avengers have assembled right alongside Angel and Co. Both slayer and vampire have skirted the boundaries of humanity, but neither can support a massacre. A crime against monsters is a crime nonetheless....

The Tale of Love and Madness

A long time ago, before the world was created and humans set foot on it for the first time, virtues and vices floated around and were bored, not knowing what to do.

One day, all the vices and virtues were gathered together and were more bored than ever. Suddenly, Ingenuity came up with an idea: "Let's play hide and seek!"

All of them liked the idea and immediately Madness shouted: "I want to count, I want to count!" And since nobody was crazy enough to want to seek Madness, all the others agreed. Madness leaned against a tree and started to count: "One, two, three..."

As Madness counted, the vices and virtues went hiding. Tenderness hung itself on the horn of the moon, Treason hid in a pile of garbage. Fondness curled up between the clouds and Passion went to the center of the earth.

Lie said that it would hide under a stone, but hid at the bottom of the lake, whilst Avarice entered a sack that he ended up breaking. And Madness continued to count: "...seventy nine, eighty, eighty one..." By this time, all the vices and virtues were already hidden - except Love. For undecided as Love is, he could not decide where to hide. And this should not surprise us, because we all know how difficult it is to hide Love.

Madness: "...ninety five, ninety six, ninety seven..." Just when Madness got to one hundred, Love jumped into a rose bush where he hid. And Madness turned around and shouted: "I'm coming, I'm coming!" As Madness turned around, Laziness was the first to be found, because Laziness had no energy to hide. Then he spotted Tenderness in the horn of the moon, Lie at the bottom of the lake and Passion at the center of the earth. One by one, Madness found them all - except Love.

Madness was getting desperate, unable to find Love. Envious of Love, Envy whispered to Madness: "You only need to find Love, and Love is hiding in the rose bush."

Madness grabbed a wooden pitchfork and stabbed wildly at the rose bush.

Madness stabbed and stabbed until a heartbreaking cry made him stop. Love appeared from the rose bush, covering his face with his hands. Between his fingers ran two trickles of blood from his eyes.

Madness, so anxious to find Love, had stabbed out Love's eyes with a pitchfork. "What have I done! What have I done!" Madness shouted. "I have left you blind! How can I repair it?" And Love answered: "You cannot repair my eyes. But if you want to do something for me, you can be my guide."

And so it came about that from that day on, Love is blind and is always accompanied by Madness.
